Mike Parkins
Mike Parkins has been involved with coaching basketball since he graduated high school from Kelowna Secondary in 1986. He has coached at all levels, from age 8-11 youth basketball with Tri-City Basketball to men’s varsity at SFU. Recently, he has been the head coach for Basketball BC’s Metro Vancouver’s Boys’ U14-U17 Center for Performance (2015-2017), as well as the Dr. Charles Best Sr. Boys (2015-2018).
Coaching highlights for Coach P. were with the KSS Owls in 1990 (3 rd Place finish in the 4A BC Championships), winning the SWISH League in Mt. Vernon, Washington with his Tri-City U14 Rep team in 2013-14 (along with multiple Canadian tournament wins that year) and coaching the Charles Best Blue Devils to their first 4A league final in 2018 (lost 53-51 to Heritage Woods) and their first win in the 4A Fraser Valleys, also in 2018.Coach Parkins also played varsity basketball at UVIC and VIU from 1990-1994, (having the opportunity to play with a teenage Steve Nash), and he is a source of nearly endless Steve Nash anecdotes.
